XTX14-BS Sealed AGM Battery

Xtreme Volts XTX14-BS is a direct replacement for the Yuasa YTX14-BS battery, and BMW part number 61 21 7 705 652 battery supplied with your vehicle.  The XTX14-BS measures 6" wide x 3.4375" deep x 5.75" high.  When viewing the battery with the terminals on the side of the battery closest to you the positive terminal is on the left side, negative is on the right side. It is a 12 volt battery, rated at 12 amp hours, and 210 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) as rated by the factory.

The Xtreme Volts version XTX14-BS is a factory sealed absorbed glass mat (AGM), maintenance free (MF), valve regulated lead acid battery (VRLA).  What does this means to the battery user? First, factory sealed means the battery comes with the acid already installed. The battery is permanently sealed, so there is no acid to handle.  Next, AGM construction incorporates glass mating packed between the plates.  As acid is added to the battery the acid absorbs into the glass matting.  This eliminates free floating acid in the battery, and eliminates the chance of acid leaking from the battery even when the battery case is damaged.  The glass mat also acts as a dampener, or cushion against shock and vibration, making this battery well suited for motorcycle and ATV applications.  Third, it is maintenance free (MF).  There is no need to check or maintain fluid levels in the battery.  Finally, a valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery does not have a vent tube.  Vapors produced by the battery are re-circulated back into the battery.  This reduces corrosion around the battery, while also eliminating the venting of hazardous hydrogen gas under normal operating and charging conditions.  In addition, the absence of a vent tube means no acid leaking from the battery.

What is AGM

AGM batteries have glass mat packed between the plates.  When acid is added to the battery it is absorbed into the glass mat.  This eliminates free floating acid in the battery.  Once acid is added to the battery it is sealed and never needs additional acid.  Because the acid is absorbed into the glass mat it can not leak if inverted or damaged. A second feature of the Xtreme Volts AGM battery is internal valving to control and reprocess hydrogen gasses produced by the battery. One of the benefits of this design is the elimination of corrosion around the battery.  In addition, Xtreme Volts AGM batteries do not have vent tubes, eliminating the possibility of leaking acid damaging expensive parts on your vehicle.

About AGM Batteries

BikeBatts, Xtreme Volts, and Ultra 12 Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are premium quality sealed batteries.  BikeBatts, Xtreme Volts, and Ultra 12 AGM batteries are maintenance free, sealed against fumes, hydrogen venting, leakage, and are non-spilling even if they are broken.  BikeBatts AGM batteries have a lower self discharge rate, so they can be stored longer without charging.

What is an AGM Battery?

AGM stands for absorbed glass mat. The plates in AGM batteries are tightly packed between layers of glass mat material and rigidly mounted to withstand shock and vibrations better than conventional batteries. When acid is added to the battery it is absorbed into the glass mat material, eliminating free floating acid in the battery.  AGM batteries are perminantly sealed, and require no addition of fluid once the battery is sealed.  Because the glass mat material is saturated with acid, the battery plates will always be emersed in acid.  This results in superior resistance to sulphation of the plates and improved energy storage. Also, because BikeBatts.com AGM batteries are sealed and retain their charge better than conventional batteries they are more resistant to freezing than conventional batteries.

What are the benefits of AGM batteries?

The benefits of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are maintenance free, sealed against fumes, hydrogen, leakage, or non-spilling even if they are broken, and can survive most freezes. AGM batteries are "recombinant" – which means the Oxygen and Hydrogen recombine inside the battery. These use gas phase transfer of oxygen to the negative plates to recombine them back into water while charging and prevent the loss of water through electrolysis. The recombining is typically 99+% efficient, so almost no water is lost. Charging voltages for most AGM batteries are the same as for a standard type battery so there is no need for special charging adjustments or problems with incompatible chargers or charge controls. Since the internal resistance is extremely low, there is almost no heating of the battery even under heavy charge and discharge currents. AGM batteries have a very low self-discharge rate (from 1% to 3% per month). So they can sit in storage for much longer periods without charging. The plates in AGM's are tightly packed and rigidly mounted, and will withstand shock and vibration better than any standard battery.

BikeBatts Gel Cel batteries are premium quality batteries, ideal for buyer interested in a leak proof, spill proof, explosion proof, corrosion proof, and deep cycle battery.  This battery has 2 to 3 times the reserve cranking power of similar size conventional batteries.  Plus, BikeBatts Gel Cel batteries have superior vibration resistance, they can be mounted at any angle without loss of performance, and they have a longer charged storage life.

What is a Gel Cell Battery?

A gel battery design is typically a modification of the standard lead acid automotive or marine battery. A gelling agent is added to the electrolyte to reduce movement inside the battery case. Many gel batteries also use one way valves in place of open vents, this helps the normal internal gasses to recombine back into water in the battery, reducing gassing. "Gel Cell" batteries are non-spillable even if they are broken. Gel cells must be charged at a lower voltage (C/20) than flooded or AGM to prevent excess gas from damaging the cells. Fast charging them on a conventional automotive charger may be permanently damage a Gel Battery.

XB16AL-A2 Sealed AGM MF Battery

Xtreme Volts XB16AL-A2 is a direct replacement for the Yuasa YB16AL-A2 battery supplied with your vehicle.  The XB16AL-A2 measures 8.125" wide x 2.8125" deep x 6.4375" high.  When viewing the battery with the terminals on the side of the battery closest to you the positive terminal is on the right side, negative on the right. It is a 12 volt battery, rated at 16 amp hours, and 290 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) as rated by the factory.

Drawbacks to the standard flooded cell YB16AL-A2 Battery

The original factory supplied YB16AL-A2 utilizes a flooded cell type construction and incorporates a vent tube.  In sports bike applications the battery does not spend a lot of time in a vertical position.  Because the conventional flooded cell battery has a vent tube, the battery being at anything other than vertical may result in acid leaking from from the battery through the vent tube, and usually onto expensive bike parts.

Solve the problem of leaking battery acid damaging your bike

The Xtreme Volts XB16AL-A2 battery is produced using the newer AGM style construction, which is much better suited for spots bike applications.  The Xtreme Volts XB16AL-A2 is constructed as a true factory sealed absorbed glass mat (AGM), maintenance free (MF), valve regulated lead acid battery (VRLA).   What does this means to the battery user? First, factory sealed means the battery comes with the acid already installed. XIX30L Sealed Gel Cell Maintenance Free Battery

Xtreme Volts XIX30L is a direct replacement for the Yuasa YIX30L, 53030, Y60-N24AL-B and BMW part number 61 21 1 459 650 batteries supplied with your vehicle.  The XIX30L measures 6.6" wide x 5" deep x 6.875" high.  When viewing the battery with the terminals on the side of the battery closest to you the positive terminal is on the right side, negative on the left. It is a 12 volt battery, rated at 30 amp hours, and 410 Cold Cranking Amps as rated by the factory.

Drawbacks to the standard flooded cell 53030 Battery

The original factory supplied 53030, Y60-N24AL-B, or 61 21 1 459 650 BMW battery utilizes a flooded cell type construction and incorporates a vent tube.  In sports bike applications the battery does not spend a lot of time in a vertical position.  Because the conventional flooded cell battery has a vent tube, the battery being at anything other than vertical may result in acid leaking from from the battery through the vent tube, and usually onto expensive bike parts.

Solve the problem of battery acid damaging onto your bike

First, the Xtreme Volts XIX30L is rated at 30 amp hours.  This is a 2 amp hour increase over the stock BMW supplied battery, giving you almost 10% more starting power.  The Xtreme Volts XIX30L also carries a higher Cold Cranking Amp (CCA) factory rating.  The combination of the increase in CCA and amp hour rating aid in the reduction, or elimination of nusance Anti-Lock Brake Warning light signals. The Xtreme Volts version of the XIX30L battery is produced using the newer Gel Cell style construction, which is much better suited for spots bike applications.  The Xtreme Volts version of the XIX30L is constructed as a true factory sealed Gel Cell, maintenance free (MF), valve regulated lead acid battery (VRLA).   What does this means to the battery user? First, factory sealed means the battery comes with the acid already installed. The battery is permanently sealed, so there is no acid to handle.  Next, Gel Cell construction incorporates a geling agent in the acid.  This give the acid a jello like consistency when fully charged.  This eliminates free floating acid in the battery, and eliminates the chance of acid leaking from the battery even when the battery case is damaged.  The gel also acts a dampener, or cushion against shock and vibration, making this battery well suited for motorcycle applications, as well as rugged, pounding conditions as may be encountered with Yamaha snowmobile, PWC, and ATV applications.
